Park & Play in Rutland July & August

I took my kids to enjoy the City of Kelowna’s “Park & Play” initiative at Mugford Park last week and it was a blast. The City of Kelowna is putting these great free family events on at various parks throughout the city including Mugford Park, Ben Lee Park, and Wigglesworth Park. Gerstmar Park Grand Opening July 15

The City of Kelowna is hosting a Grand Opening Ceremony for the official opening of the new Gerstmar Park on Friday, July 15th from 1-2pm. They are inviting federal and municipal dignitaries as well as the Rutland Residents Association, local residents and daycares. After about 15 minutes of speeches there will be cake, refreshments, freezies/juice for the kids. As well as having a new playground, Recreation Services will have a few of the Park and Play activities out for the kids.

Gerstmer Park is located at the south end of Gerstmer Road along Mission Creek.

Game Seven at Home for the Kelowna Chiefs

The Kelowna Chiefs have shown some serious moxy in their first playoff series against the Princeton Posse, coming back to tie the best of 7 series at 3-3. Game 7 is tonight at Rutland Arena at 7 pm and the Chiefs want the suppport of their Rutland community to make sure they can put Princeton behind them and move on to round 2.

Kelowna Chiefs Movember Mustache Night This Friday

The Kelowna Chiefs junior hockey team in Rutland has jumped on the Movember bandwagon to help put on the “Movember Mustache Night” at this Friday’s (Nov 19, 7pm) home game at Rutland Arena. Movember is a global movement where men grow mustaches during the month of November to raise money and awareness for prostate cancer. Our event this Friday will feature a Fan Mustache Competition and a Fan Pledge Challenge with great prizes including a $100 gift certificate to Olympia Greek Taverna. The Houghton Road Multi-use Corridor project near Ben Lee Park in Rutland is nearly complete and the finished product is very impressive. Vist the new recreation corridor between Hollywood Road and Lester Road and watch for future phases!

New Gerstmar Park in Springvalley is Nearing Completion

The City of Kelowna and the Central Okanagan Regional District have partnered up to build a beautiful new park at the south end of Gertmar Road in the Springvalley area of Rutland. This new park borders Mission Creeks so will be enjoyed by neighborhood residents and those that enjoy the Mission Creek Green way alike. Gerstmar Park will contain pathways, a playground, an open grass area, native tree and riparian area enhancements, a parking lot and a tennis court. The Kelowna BMX Track has been a fixture in the Rutland community since 1982, located in the Rutland Recreation Complex near the Kelowna Family Y and the Rutland Arena. In addition to being an absolute blast, BMX racing is a sport centered around spending time with family, pushing your limits, and learning skill and self discipline.
