New 49 Unit Residential Building Breaks Ground on Rutland Road

February 25, 2011

With the support of BC Housing, a 49 unit apartment building has begun construction at the City Of Kelowna’s property at 189 Rutland Road N.  The housing development will provide long term, transitional housing for those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.   The John Howard Society of the Central and South Okanagan (JHSCSO) will manage and operate New Gate Apartments. Completion of the building is estimated for January 2012.

“New Gate Apartments will be home to people who have already begun to stabilize their life through living in short-term supportive housing environments such as our Cardington Apartments,” said Shelley Cook, executive director, John Howard Society of the Central and South Okanagan. “With the addition of this building our organization will be able to further meet the needs of citizens in our community and come closer to breaking the cycle of poverty and homelessness.”
